Comments:One of the most impressive statues of the Buddha I've ever seen. When I was there, my guide explained to me that the statue depicts the moment that the Buddha died - if you could see his feet you would notice that his toes are curled upwards.

Comments:Gal Vihara I was there 20 years ago. Very impressive, those three (or four?) hughe Buddha statues.

The Location, Area:"Gal Vihara" or "Stone Temple" is located in Polonnaruwa
Comments:These Buddha statues date back to the mid-12th century, were cut from a single granite wall and rank among the true masterpieces of Sri Lankan art. At one time, the Gal Vihara Buddhas were enclosed by brick buildings. Very nice photograph !!
